Mount Tajam - vacation to go to Belitung Island. The origins of the Keramat Mount Tajam Belitung Island- An Islamic preacher, Sayid Hasan bin Abdullah or Sheikh Abubakar Abdullah came to Belitung Island in the reign of Kiai Agus Bustam, titled Depati Cakraningrat IV (1700-1740) of the kingdom of Balok, Belitung. He came through the Belitung River which is 45 km away from the Tanjung Pandan. He was from Aceh and wanted to come to this island to teach Islam. He stayed at the Buding Village. This is the foundation of the beginning of the Mount Tajam Belitung Island
From this village he taught Islam to the entire remote spots in Belitung Island. In doing his activity, he was assisted by Tu’ Kundo. He was Sheikh Abubakar Abdullah’s famous pupil. He often named a person who was considered infidels to become a Muslim. This is a difficult task for a preacher. Because of this, both of them always got challenge. However, with strong determination, they kept doing their activity of teaching Islam to the Belitung inhabitants. Long story short, many people in this Island had converted to Islam. Every region which was inhabited by Muslims has a mosque to pray. The first mosque that was built by Syekh Abubakar Abdullah is located in Kampung Badau. It is located about 22 km from Tanjungpandan.

Because Sheikh Abubakar Abdullah could persuade a big number of inhabitants to become Muslims, Kiai Agus Bustam who ruled the kingdom felt afraid of losing the trust of the citizens. He did everything to get his people stayed loyal to him. He did not even afraid to fight.
One day, Kiai Agus Bustam came to kill Sheikh Abubakar Abdullah. The Sheikh was not afraid. As a preacher, he did not afraid to die. Kiai Agus Bustam’s effort to kill him was met with bravery. Because of this, a duel happened. However, after a long duel and various tactics applied, neither of them died. Finnaly, the Sheikh said to Kiai Agus Bustam, “King, this is a wrong way, if you really want to kill me. You only need to jab a gold needle from keminangan on the tip of my right toe.”
Apparently, Kiai Agus Bustam determined to kill the Sheikh. Without wasting any time, after knowing his weakness, he took a gold needle from his keminangan and jabbed it to the Sheikh’s toe. The Sheikh collapsed at once. He died leaving the mortal world and clad with good deeds and big name as the first Islamic preacher in Belitung. Actually, before he died, the Sheikh said to Tu’ Kundo, “ If I died, please bury me in between the heaven and earth.” However, because at that time Tu’ Kundo was out of town, the Sheikh’s followers buried him at a land near the headwater of Air Batu River, Buding.
After being buried, a miracle happened. When Tu’ Kundo arrived at a land on the top of Mount Tajam Laki, Sheikh Abdullah’s beloved cat died. He thought that it was a sign that it was the place where the Sheikh’s body should be buried. As it had been said, the body was buried at that land. When Tu’ Kundo dug the burial, another miracle happened. For seven days and nights of digging, there was fragrant and foul odors spread in turns. It made the people who come to the funeral came home. There were only left seven of his pupils. Finally, after the digging is over, they laid the Sheikh’s body in it with his beloved cat laid at his feet.
Because he is buried on the top of Gunung Tajam, Sayid Hasan bin Abdullah or Syekh Abubakar Abdullah later on is known as Keramat Gunung Tajam or Datuk Gunung Tajam. Today, the tomb of Keramat Gunung Tajam became a pilgrimage place. It is always crowded with people especially Muslims. If you want to be one of them go and visit Mount Tajam Belitung Island.
